WOOLPROD PROJECT
Bio Products Australia’s WoolProd Project is a sustainable manufacturing platform that converts under-utilised waste wool into biodegradable, slow-release nutrient pellets for agricultural use. Designed to address both agricultural input challenges and waste management constraints, WoolProd delivers a circular, low-emissions alternative to conventional synthetic fertilisers.
The WoolProd platform is being developed for commercial-scale deployment, providing growers with a natural nutrient input that improves soil function, supports water retention, and reduces reliance on fossil-fuel-derived nitrogen products.
Project at a Glance
Input: Traceable, under-utilised waste wool streams from agricultural and processing sources
Process: Proprietary pelletisation and stabilisation process designed to preserve nutrient integrity and controlled release characteristics
Outputs:
Biodegradable wool nutrient pellets: delivering slow-release nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, and trace elements
Soil-conditioning benefits: improved soil structure, moisture retention, and microbial activity
Strategic Impact
The WoolProd Project responds to growing demand for regenerative, input-efficient fertiliser solutions while addressing the environmental and economic challenge of waste wool disposal.
Aligned with national sustainability objectives and global soil health priorities, the project:
Reduces emissions by displacing fossil-fuel-derived synthetic fertilisers
Creates value from an under-utilised agricultural by-product
Supports improved soil performance and water-use efficiency in cropping systems
Enables integration with complementary bio-inputs, including biochar and wood vinegar
WoolProd forms a core component of BPA’s strategy to deliver scalable, circular bio-based solutions that strengthen agricultural productivity while supporting the transition to a low-emissions economy.
